The Grumman Avenger was an American torpedo bomber developed for the United States Navy and Marine Corps the Avenger was also used by several air and naval forces around the world.
Entering U.S. service in 1942 and first seeing action during the Battle of Midway the Avenger went to become the most effective and widely-used torpedo bomber of World War II, sharing credit for sinking the super-battleships Yamato and Musashi.
